Location

“Same as last year”. T-Talo main hall. Address is Vanha Hämeentie 29, Turku (Google Maps). Entrance via Karjakuja.

The event map has many of the important locations nearby the tournament.

Schedule

Event is on Saturday, 20.09.2025.
Be there at 09:45 the latest.
First round pairings & player meet at approximately 10:00.
First round starts at approximately 10:15.

45 minute lunch break after round 4.
Be prepared for lunch time! The nearby restaurants might get busy. If possible, please pre-order via food delivery services, or bring your own lunch.

European Highlander.
Regular REL.
Entrance fee is 30 EUR.
Event cap is 110 players (cap increased!)
6 rounds swiss (-64 players) or 7 rounds swiss (65+ players) into top 8.
60 minute time limit for swiss rounds.
Gold border (WCD), CE/IE, Magic 30th Anniversary, and Artist Proofs are allowed.
Any other proxies are not allowed.

Please pay on September 5th, 2025 the latest! On September 7th, 2025 unpaid registrations will be removed and wait list will be moved up.

Payments may only be refunded with a doctor’s notice or similar proof of force majeure.

Prize structure

Simple: Income minus expenses (venue, judges…) equals prize pool. Prize cutoff is top 8.

1st place will get approximately 26%. (approx. 450 EUR with 80 players)
2nd place will get approximately 18%. (approx. 300 EUR with 80 players)
3rd and 4th places will get approximately 12% each. (approx. 200 EUR with 80 players)
5th to 8th places will get approximately 8% each. (approx. 120 EUR with 80 players)

For winners permanently residing in Finland, all prizes valued over 100 EUR (both money and product) require the recipient’s personal identity code (henkilötunnus) for taxation purposes.
Prizes will be paid via bank transfer, so please have your IBAN at hand.

Side event: Premodern Highlander

Towards the end of the swiss rounds (likely after the 5th-6th round) we will launch a side event for Premodern Highlander.

• Premodern set legality and banlist.
• Highlander deckbuilding rules: 100 cards minimum, singleton (apart from basic lands), no sideboard.
• Tournament format will be from round robin up to 4 rounds of swiss, depending on amount of participants.
• 60 minute rounds.
• No additional registration fee for Ylämaa IV players.
  15 EUR registration fee for outside players. This may be paid on-site (cash or MobilePay), or beforehand (see payment info above in the “Registration” section).
• No preregistration for side event, please see tournament staff on-site.
• Will launch somewhere after main tournament round 5/6, no solid time but best guess is sometime around 17:00.
• Product prizes.
• Proxy policy is the same as main tournament: Gold border (WCD), CE/IE, Magic 30th Anniversary, and Artist Proofs are allowed.

Hotel

The preferred and closest hotel to the event is Original Sokos Hotel Kupittaa.

For reservations between Friday (19.9.) and Sunday (21.9.), please use the promotion code BYLAMAA when booking online, or mention the code YLÄMAA when booking by phone or email.

The discounted price is 108 EUR per night for 1 person, or 128 EUR for 2 persons (standard twin room, 2 beds). Breakfast is included.

The promotion code is limited, and will expire after 22.8.2025.

On-site card sales

Like last year, Basaari will once again arrive to the event to sell their goods including format-appropriate singles.

For picking up orders at the event:

1. Make your purchase through their website.
2. Select “pick-up” as the delivery method.
3. Send a message via the website or via Discord (to user “nekron”) and mention Ylämaa as the pick-up location.

Food & drinks

We are currently discussing having a pre-order pizza service for the lunch break as well as coffee service in the morning.

There will be a small self-service kiosk at the venue, similar to last year.

Other info

There will be a feature match table where matches will be recorded and published afterwards on the Haikku.fi YouTube channel. It is your right to decline being set in the feature match table, no questions asked. Please approach the event staff at the venue if you have any questions or concerns. Please note that such accommodation might not be possible for top 8 matches.

We hope to gather as many decklists as possible from the event to publish via the Haikku.fi Moxfield account. Please be ready to submit your event decklist either on paper or electronically. This is not a requirement but a sincere wish, and previous attendees may know I’m good at pestering. 🙂

Q: Will the set Marvel’s Spider-Man be legal?
A: Assumedly yes. The prerelease week of Spider-Man is scheduled to begin on September 19th, the day before the tournament. As all sets become legal on their prerelease day, they will be legal in the tournament.

Q: How can I get Marvel’s Spider-Man cards for the tournament?
A: Basaari will be on-site to sell singles and deliver preorders. This is subject to availability and the schedule on which they receive the product.
Fantasiapelit Turku will host a prerelease event on Friday, the day before the tournament (as well as on Sunday, after the tournament). They will also have a limited number of singles for sale.

Q: For the Premodern Highlander side event, are cards banned in European Highlander legal, such as Survival of the Fittest?
A: Yes. For the Premodern Highlander side event, the Premodern banlist is followed.
